Our environment and lifestyle has changed exponentially in the past 100 years. Plastics, modern medications, food additives (chemicals, preservatives, antibiotics, hormones), pesticides, herbicides, are toxins our bodies were not designed to cope with and can’t eliminate. This is why detoxification is needed.

It is vital to detoxify your body properly, otherwise you shock your body with a “toxic dump” that it can’t handle, resulting in headaches, fever, nausea, muscle aches, cramps. Most commercial and “popular” detox diets subscribe to this “quick-fix” method, but a detox cannot be done in 1 week or with poor nutrition.

Proper assessment is imperative and includes understanding how drugs can be altered when on a detox. Inform your GP as in many cases medication dosage may need to be lowered or stopped as your body gets healthier.

The scientifically-based 6-8 week detox system we use first analyses pH levels, mineral levels and toxic by-products. A comprehensive health questionnaire systematically determines how well every organ system is functioning. Phase 1 eliminates imbalance in your body. After more testing, phase 2 replenishes vital bacteria. Phase 3 eliminates toxins into a system now prepared to remove them.

It is important to note detoxing is not about weight loss, but returning healthy function to the body. Many people suffer weight gain due to inflammation caused by diet. The “food pyramid” is high in disease-causing inflammatory foods such as grain and dairy. For example, dairy creates an acidic imbalance causing the body to lose calcium from the bones. The detox program addresses nutrition.

When it comes to good health for you and your family, preventing a problem is much easier than treating a problem. In the long run, prevention also costs much less.

Most of us were introduced to chiropractic care when we were adults – and we had to play catch-up for however long a period of time before we really began to feel healthy again. If we began chiropractic care as a younger adult, it probably didn’t take too long to restore good health.

Chiropractic care is valuable for you, and is valuable for your children. Kids are natural explorers – they run, jump, climb things, fall down, and bounce around. Kids are resilient – this ability to recover quickly is one of the great benefits of being very young. Occasionally, one of these activity-related injuries impacts a child’s spine. Nothing obvious has happened and nothing hurts. But there may be subtle injuries to spinal muscles and spinal ligaments that have a long-term effect on spinal nerve function.

Chiropractors are the spinal health experts. Helping to restore proper spinal biomechanics and improved nervous system function begins with a patient’s case history. This gives the chiropractor a background about your health, such as surgeries, accidents, the onset of your condition, and other details affecting your current health. After reviewing your history and discussing your specific problem, a thorough orthopaedic, neurological, and chiropractic examination is performed. X-rays may be taken to uncover structural and functioning problems associated with the spinal column. These examinations help identify areas of spinal malfunction and resulting nervous system deficit. The findings of these examinations are explained and a plan of chiropractic adjustments may be recommended. Progress is monitored with periodical examinations and follow-up reports.

Chiropractic uses safe and gentle, scientific methods for the relief of pain, spinal misalignment and nerve irritation. It is also effective in addressing many sports related injuries, like sprains and strains. If prevention sounds like a better idea, chiropractic also helps to keep your body functioning at its best.

Regular chiropractic checkups help keeps you in tip-top shape. Those who are active, have stressful lives, or want to be their very best, find that a schedule of preventative visits are helpful in the maintenance of good health and for keeping your body functioning at its best.

If you’re a sufferer of chronic headaches or migraines, you don’t need convincing that they’re one of the most painful, debilitating conditions you could possibly suffer. Millions upon millions of dollars a year are spent on trying to find relief from this crippling illness. But what causes migraines? Basically it’s a decrease in oxygen to the brain. If the brain receives less oxygen per milliliter of blood, it will simply increase the amount of blood flow to increase the overall amount of oxygen received. In order to increase the amount of blood flow it must dilate the blood vessels that supply blood to the brain. When these vessels dilate, it stretches pain fibres that wrap around the outside of these vessels. When these pain fibres are stretched they are activated and start sending pain signals into the brain, resulting in your perception of pain.

Headaches and migraines may also be caused by a misalignment or dysfunction of a vertebra in the top of the neck. This then causes inflammation and tension of the joints, muscles and blood vessels at the base of the neck, which then transfers pain up into the skull.

So what can chiropractic do to help? By performing gentle but specific adjustments to the neck and upper back we restore the normal alignment and function of the vertebrae in the neck, which removes the tension that causes headache and migraine symptoms. As well as removing the tension, the inflammation around the joints, muscles and blood vessels is decreased and the pain fibres begin to be deactivated.

177 volunteers who had been suffering neck pain and migraines for over 18 years entered a study. All of those who received chiropractic care were able to reduce their medication intake, with a significant number reducing their intake to zero. Additionally, 59% reported no neck pain after 2 months, and another 35% had a significant decrease in neck pain.

This is not the only study to show these results; there have been dozens more which all show similar outcomes.

There are other factors that contribute to headaches, but these figures, and chiropractors’ everyday experiences show that neck problems are a huge contributor.

Do you suffer from headaches or migraines? The answer may be simple. Come in and see what we can do.

Today’s modern living often entails hours of driving and hunching over workstations, which can play havoc with our necks. So it is no surprising that neck pain is the second most common condition that chiropractors treat. Whilst neck pain is less common than low back pain, millions of people experience neck pain and related arm pain at some stage in their lives and therefore seek chiropractic care.

It results from abnormalities in the soft tissues – muscles, ligaments, and nerves, as well as in the bone and the joints of the spine. The most common causes that chiropractors identify and treat are soft tissue abnormalities from injury or prolonged wear and tear and in many people it is also the source of pain in the upper back, shoulders and arms.

When neck pain is caused by muscle strain, you may have aches and stiffness that spread to the upper arm and forearm. Shooting pain that spread down the arm into the hand and fingers can be a symptom of a “pinched nerve” or nerve entrapment in the neck. When a nerve is “pinched” in the neck, numbness, weakness and possibly pain of the hands or arms may occur. Disc injuries are rare but it is the most common cause of nerve entrapments.

Injuries to the neck caused by a sudden movement of the head backwards and forwards or sideways, are referred to as “whiplash”. Whether from a car accident, sporting injury or an accident at work, whiplash or neck injuries warrant a thorough chiropractic examination.

Whiplash is most commonly suffered as a result of a road traffic accident. An impact or collision causes the head to suddenly jerk back and forth beyond its normal limits.

Wear and Tear, Osteoarthritis or Joint Degeneration occurs due to the accumulation of stresses and trauma over time. Throughout life the spine is required to withstand considerable weight bearing strain, purely as a result of the pressures of daily living. The overall effects of degenerative changes of the spine, leads to a feeling of stiffness and reduced spinal mobility. However, just like any other part of the body, the better care that is taken of the spine, the less degeneration is likely to occur.

Chiropractic treatment is usually very effective for neck pain.

The importance of good posture cannot be stressed enough in modern times. It extends far beyond our outward appearance and aesthetics. Your posture is an indication of muscle balance and spinal alignment. Chiropractors around the world are seeing a sharp rise in health problems arising from poor posture. Especially in children with the rise in computer games and electronic device use.

Chiropractors often see cases where postural problems initiate a chain of events that can result in unnecessary pain and stiffness, stress on other parts of the body, and time off work. The issue is becoming more relevant as we tend to spend more time at work. However, bad posture can also be problematic at home after hours, affecting parents and children.

Achieving good posture is more complicated than simply ‘putting your shoulders back’. For example, did you know that most people’s postural problems can originate from several postural problem areas in the body, forward head, rounded shoulders and pelvic tilt are just a few.

A Chiropractor can help and will begin by conducting a thorough assessment of the patient’s posture. This can include:

Detailed postural observation

Muscle length and muscle control testing

Full spine assessment

Evaluation of functional tasks

Posture Pro Computer Analysis

Your Chiropractor can provide professional assistance in achieving and maintaining good posture with

A personalised stretching and exercise program that is tailored specifically to you, bracing and/or taping techniques

Core-stability exercises

Ergonomic advice for your work and home environments

Chiropractors will also use hands on techniques to help correct the underlying causes of poor posture.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care

An assessment of your posture can screen for structural problems and muscle imbalances but more importantly, it improves your body awareness which is important for injury prevention. Being aware of good posture is the first step to breaking poor postural habits and reducing stress and strain on your body.

Our team of Chiropractors is specially trained to evaluate your posture. Chiropractic treatment program including postural advice, manual treatment and rehabilitation exercises help to re-establish a flexible, strong and pain-free posture is suggested.

You can take control of your long-term structural health. By putting this knowledge into practice you can prevent the anatomical changes that can develop if poor posture is left uncorrected.

“Sciatica” pain is often described as tingling, pain or numbness produced by an irritation or entrapment of the nerve roots (3rd lumbar to the 3rd sacral nerve roots) that make up the Sciatic Nerve. Sciatica occurs when this nerve is compressed, irritated, or inflamed. The typical referral pain of sciatica pain begins in your back or buttocks and moves down the back of your leg, radiating around the outside of your knee and lower leg into your big toe and second toe. Weakness, tingling, or numbness in the leg may also occur.

Sciatica can result from different stresses on the body, however it’s most commonly caused by misalignment (subluxation) in the lower spine and pelvis that results in interference to the sciatic nerve. Although not always associated with pain, these subluxations can apply a good deal of pressure on the sciatic nerve and cause severe pain. Often traumatic events are not the cause of sciatica and less commonly noted causes would include arthritis, tumours, diabetes, vitamin deficiencies, and any degeneration as a result from long-term stress on the lower back. A Chiropractor is trained to find the underlying cause of the problem and will enlist the help of other health professionals if the cause is beyond the scope of chiropractic.

The effects of sciatic pain penetrate every aspect of life. Everyday life becomes a chore when suffering from sciatic pain; even simple tasks such as getting out of bed, coughing sneezing or even using the bathroom can become a painful experience. Those in acute Sciatic pain understand how debilitating it can be, affecting every aspect of your personal and professional life. The emotional effects can be devastating as pain restricts our ability to truly enjoy life. Bed rest and inactivity is often the only thing that gives relief, though temporary. What some don’t realize is walking and movements that extend the spine may relieve symptoms such as lying with your back on an exercise ball. Sciatica rarely is the result from one event, accident or injury. Sciatica’s damage is an accumulation of a lifetime of neglect and improper care of the lumbar spine. With this in mind, it is essential for proper care and maintenance of the lumbar spine to prevent Sciatica from ever taking place. When Sciatica is first suspected, it is crucial that care begin immediately to prevent permanent damage or damage that requires dangerous invasive medical attention.

Many times people with sciatica wait until the pain becomes unbearable before they contact the chiropractor. Waiting can cause long-term damage. It is important that you contact your chiropractor when the pain originally begins. The first thing your chiropractor will do is review your complete health history to determine when the problem began and the possible causes. Then a complete physical and chiropractic exam is performed, and x-rays may be taken. Your chiropractor will review and discuss the results with you and make recommendations for care.

The Chiropractic approach does not cover up the symptoms associated with Sciatica, but actually finds and takes care of the underlying causes. If nerve supply is diminished at all it must be restored so the body can repair and function optimally Along with proper chiropractic adjustments, a program of rehabilitation is prescribed to maximise soft tissue healing and to build strength and stability to the area to prevent future injuries. .

Scoliosis is a progressive, lateral curvature of the spine. When viewed from the side, the spine should have curves. But when viewed from the front, the spine should be straight.

The most commonly found type of scoliosis is called “adolescent idiopathic scoliosis”. Idiopathic means “of unknown origin”. But recent research into the cause of scoliosis seems to suggest that there is often a genetic factor which affects the control of the growth of the spine. Scoliosis can affect both children and adults. In children it can be a more serious condition because it can rapidly progress as the child grows.

Scoliosis is usually first seen in children between the ages of 10 and 15. However, it can occur in younger children aged 3 to 10 years (juvenile scoliosis) and in babies (infantile scoliosis). Scoliosis can also occur in adults with no previous history, due to spinal degeneration and advancing age. This is called (De Novo scoliosis).

The effects of scoliosis include: poor posture, shoulder humping, muscle weakness, and pain. In rare cases scoliosis can lead to heart and lung problems. If scoliosis is detected and treated early, patients can avoid these symptoms in many cases. If left untreated, scoliosis can sometimes require surgery.

Treatment of Scoliosis

Conservative scoliosis treatments have the best result when the condition is detected early and treated with appropriate and proven methods. By combining treatments into a program tailored for each patient and adjusted according to response it is often possible to avoid the more unpleasant, expensive or dangerous treatment options.

Specific Chiropractic Adjustments, designed to correct dysfunction of skeletal structures and reduce the torsion in the spinal cord

Use of foot Orthotics and Heel Lifts to level the pelvis

Exercises specifically designed to address balance, co-ordination and proprioceptive (body awareness) problems as well as stretch the muscles around the curves and correct changes in muscle fibres

Nutritional support

Chiropractic care for scoliosis can be very effective, especially when the deformity is in the early stages. The treatment program requires a commitment by the patient and their family, but if undertaken enthusiastically it has the potential to prevent the need for much more drastic treatments later on.

During our busy everyday lives we experience different forms of stress such as physical stress (accidents, falls, lifting heavy objects, etc.), emotional stress (children, work, divorce, etc.), and chemical stress (processed foods, drugs, water pollution, etc.) These stresses can often cascade into other problems that may lead to negative structural changes in the spinal bones. Under stress, spinal vertebrae can misalign and cause interference to the healthy communication of nerve messages between the brain and body. Chiropractors call these spinal misalignments, subluxation. Disruption to the nerve system will inevitably result in some form of body dysfunction. This could mean the body’s organs; tissue and cells are either over worked or underworked, which can lead to disease.

For over 115 years, chiropractors have empowered people to understand that every function of the body is controlled and directed through the nervous system. Health comes from within. When the nervous system is clear from any interference and the communication from the brain to organs and tissues is 100%, the body is able to function normally and express health.

Children experience stress and anxiety just as adults do. Their days are jam packed with school work, sports activities, music, chiropractic appointments, spending time with friends and peer pressure. Don’t be fooled. Kid’s stress is just as real as adult’s stress. Just as in adults, stress can cause unhappiness and anxiety. Stress in children can also lead to a lowered immune system. As a result of a stressed immune system, kids can become more susceptible to common illnesses like ear infections, headaches, common colds and viruses.

Chiropractors focus on and place a great deal of significance on the healthy structure of the spine and the function of the nerve system. The Master Control Centre of the body is the nerve system (made up of the brain, spinal cord and nerves). The spinal bones serve not only to protect the delicate spinal cord but also provides the body with stability, movement and good posture. Now you can see why Chiropractors are so concerned about making sure your spine is healthy and maintained throughout life!

A chiropractic adjustment is a great way to release stress and anxiety from your body. Removing interference and anxiety in your nerve system gives your body the ability to heal and regulate at its optimal level. Having your spine looked after and maintained with chiropractic adjustments, as well as living a healthier lifestyle will certainly go a long way to assisting your overall health and prevent problems in the future.

Chiropractic care is a health care approach based upon the body’s natural ability to heal itself and is a very important step in a commitment to optimal health. Optimal health is one of our most valuable possessions. We should value ourselves enough to strive for the highest level of health. When we take responsibility for the choices we make regarding health, we give ourselves the best opportunity to achieve all of our health goals. Chiropractic care can help give us the natural health we deserve when we commit to learning more about our body and take all of the necessary steps to stay well.

It may not be possible to remove the stress from a busy life. However, with the help of your Chiropractor, you can respond better to the unique challenges you face.
