Myotherapy & Remedial Massage

Myotherapy targets your muscles and ligaments to restore proper function through remedial massage techniques, dry needling, cupping, corrective exercises and stretches. Myotherapists spend 4 years training to learn the latest and safest ways to treat your aches and pains. Chiropractic and Myotherapy work really well together as Chiropractic  align the vertebrae in your back to allow your nervous system to function optimally and Myotherapy will allow the muscles to relax.

Your Myotherapist, Bethany Medica studied at the Southern School of Natural Therapies for 4 years to gain a Bachelor of Health Sciences and a Degree in Clinical Myotherapy. Bethany is a practicing member of the Institute of Registered Myotherapists Australia and is recognised by many health funds. Bethany treats from a holistic approach, taking into consideration all aspects of your lifestyle. Her in-depth experience includes pain management, postural correction, rehabilitation exercises , and pre- and post-natal Myotherapy. Bethany strongly believes getting to the core of your problems and in turn educating you on how to avoid future pain and dysfunction. This allows you to have independence and control of your condition, which maximizes the success of your treatments.

Myotherapy is a branch of manual medicine which focuses on the prevention, treatment and management of musculoskeletal pain. The physical evaluation and therapeutic approach of Myotherapy aims to restore the correct function of muscles, joints and nerves in order to achieve optimal function and movement of the body.  Treatment may include deep tissue massage, dry needling, cupping, vertebral/joint mobilization, heat/ice therapy, stretching and corrective exercises. Ultimately through the deactivation of myofascial trigger points, by increasing joint range and mobility, and restoring neuromuscular function, a person’s quality of life is improved as pain levels decrease.

Everybody can benefit from Myotherapy, including the elderly, disabled, pregnant women, athletes and people suffering from stresses of daily living. Got any questions? You can send an email to the practitioners with any questions you may have.

Clinical Myotherapy is a branch of manual medicine which focuses on the prevention, treatment, and management of musculoskeletal pain.  Your initial consultation with a Myotherapist will typically involve reviewing your medical history as well as an extensive physical evaluation examining affected muscles, joints and nerves. An individual’s musculoskeletal alignment is also assessed including aspects of their posture.

MODALITIES

Deep and Soft Tissue Therapy

A technique used on specific areas of the body to locate, assess and treat abnormal muscle contraction. It aims at de-activating trigger points, increasing blood flow through the body and increasing overall mobility of the joint.

Joint Mobilisation

This is a manual therapy which involves performing a passive and involuntary movement of the joint in order to restore motion. Joints may become dysfunctional as a result of trauma, overuse or disuse, and are therefore may be unable to perform their normal movements. Joints mobilisation can help restore the effected joints to their optimal potential.

Dry Needling

This technique aims to deactivate myofascial trigger points, which are hyper-irritable spots within skeletal muscle related to the production and maintenance of the pain cycle. These trigger points are usually painful when pressure is applied and can refer pain to other areas of the body. The treatment involves inserting a very fine needle, which stimulates the point and begins to relax the muscle. This is not usually described as painful, although there may be a slight aching feeling which will lessen within a few minutes.

Corrective Exercises

The body is designed to perform at its optimum level when it is in a position of correct posture. Unfortunately over time we tend to pick up bad habits like slouching, leaning and sitting incorrectly. Corrective exercises are designed to make positive changes to your posture. They focus on the cause of the pain, and undo imbalances and compensations to guide the body to work in harmony and without pain.

A corrective exercise and stretching program will be advised depending on your condition and occupation, and can be implemented during everyday activities.

Chinese Cupping

This therapy has been used in China for thousands of years. The cups are placed on the skin over the area of pain, with a vacuum effect then causing the skin and muscle to be pulled into the cup. Cupping can affect the body up to four inches into the tissues, causing the tissues to release toxins, activate the lymphatic system, activate and clear the veins, arteries and capillaries, and activate the skin to improve its overall appearance.

Thermal Therapies

Heat is used to increase local blood flow to the area thereby speeding up both metabolism and the healing process. It also has a soothing and relaxing effect on the body.
